Job description:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Viticulturist to lead vineyard operations and optimize grape yield, quality, and vine health. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in tropical or subtropical viticulture, with experience managing vineyards under conditions such as high humidity, rainfall variability, multiple crop cycles, and elevated disease pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Vineyard Operations:

• Plan and oversee vineyard activities including pruning, canopy management, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, harvesting, and vineyard renewal.
• Monitor vine growth, phenology, and vineyard performance to maximize yield and fruit quality.
• Develop and execute annual vineyard work plans and crop calendars.

Tropical Viticulture Management:

• Implement vineyard practices suited for tropical conditions, including crop cycle management, double pruning systems, and climate adaptation strategies.
• Manage vineyard challenges relating to heat, humidity, rainfall, and disease pressure.

Yield & Vineyard Health:

• Monitor and analyze yield, fruit set, Brix, berry quality, and vine health indicators.
• Identify root causes of low yield and quality issues and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and oversee integrated pest, disease, irrigation, and nutrition programs.

Team Leadership & Reporting:

• Lead and train vineyard teams on SOPs and best practices.
• Maintain vineyard records and prepare operational reports.
• Drive continuous improvement and sustainable vineyard practices.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Viticulture, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of vineyard management experience.
• Minimum 35 years of direct experience in tropical or subtropical viticulture.
• Strong knowledge of canopy management, irrigation, nutrition, pest and disease management, and vineyard performance optimization.
• Experience in estate winery operations and tropical wine-growing environments will be a strong advantage.
