About the Opportunity
Our client is a specialist technology company providing advanced software solutions to major telecommunications organisations around the world.
They are looking for a Project Manager with strong core PM skills to lead customer-facing technology projects from planning through delivery.
This is a genuine Project Manager role, not a Scrum Master or Delivery Lead position. The role combines structured governance, commercial control, stakeholder management and technology delivery. Telecoms or GIS experience is useful but not essential.
Role & Responsibilities
As a Project Manager, you will own customer projects from planning through delivery, ensuring alignment to scope, timescales, budgets and customer expectations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading customer-facing technology projects from initiation through delivery
- Developing and maintaining project plans, schedules and milestones
- Maintaining RAID logs and managing risks, issues, actions and dependencies
- Operating formal change control across scope, cost and schedule
- Managing project budgets, forecasts, costs, delivery hours and resource utilisation
- Leading internal and client-facing project meetings
- Providing regular project status, financial and governance reporting
- Monitoring milestones, deliverables and project dependencies
- Identifying and resolving escalated project issues
- Managing stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle
- Coordinating project teams, technical specialists and customer stakeholders
- Supporting and mentoring members of the Project Management Office
- Contributing to the improvement of PMO processes and controls
- Maintaining knowledge of company technologies and PM best practice
Qualifications:
Key Requirements
You will be a hands-on Project Manager with clear ownership of governance, financial control, risk, change and delivery within a technology environment.
Essential skills and experience include:
- 3+ years'hands-on Project Management experience within software, technology or enterprise IT
- Proven ownership of end-to-end project delivery
- Proven external client-facing project leadership experience
- Strong practical knowledge of PM methodologies and governance such as PMI/PMBOK, PRINCE2, IPMA or HERMES
- Experience managing project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies and resources
- Project financial management including budgets, forecasting, cost control and reporting
- Practical management of RAID logs, risks, issues, actions and dependencies
- Experience operating formal scope and change control
- Experience delivering software implementation, integration, migration or deployment projects
- Strong stakeholder management, including senior and C-level customer contacts
- Experience coordinating cross-functional technical and business teams
- Excellent communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
Desirable:
- PMP certification or strong knowledge of PMI / PMBOK
- Previous supervisory or people management experience
- Experience within telecommunications, network technology, fibre or OSS/BSS
- Exposure to GIS or network inventory platforms such as Smallworld or Ericsson Network Engineer
